They literally are leftovers from my printmaking time when I produced etchings of the Hemingway cats being sold at the Hemingway Home and Museum in Key West.  

The three squares are papers that I used during the process and get ink on them. 

The fabric is tarlatan with which I wiped the plates off after inking them before I ran them through the press.

I just experimented with forms and mixed media.
